What to Drink

How to drink like a Bridgerton

While you may not be able to eat, sleep and more importantly dress like a Bridgerton here is how you can drink like one.

The Duke himself was seen stepping out and about in New York City recently, setting many hearts aflutter. With Bridgerton being renewed for Season 2 on Netflix, the excitement around the royal drama is not abating any time soon. We have definitely not had our heart's fill of the British period drama with debutante balls, exquisite gowns, sometimes questionable hairstyles, society gossip, and Regé-Jean Page playing the Duke of Hastings.

Lady Whistledown’s new reveal informed us that the Duke is making a much-awaited appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend. We're getting ready to watch what he will bring to the screen, with a drink in our hand royally inspired by the show itself.

We’re giving you the cues on the drinks you may delight in to get into the Bridgerton spirit. Enjoy your drink, Your Grace.

A Bourbon at the Bar

Anthony Bridgerton and The Duke hobnobbed at the Gentlemen’s Club often, amicably or not but always with a glass of Bourbon in hand.

We recommend the Devil's Share Bourbon whiskey, a 95 point gold winner at the USA Spirits Rating. It smells like vanilla wafers with aromas of spice and fresh bread. With a lovely texture on the palate, this one won't disappoint like Anthony's sometimes unrequited feelings.

With new face Simone Ashley joining as Anthony's new love interest in Season 2, there are plenty of scandals to be expected. Wash them down with the excellent Viscount Whiskey Sour Scandal.

•    Lime juice

1.    First, fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add your whiskey, simple syrup, and citrus juices.
2.    Put the lid firmly on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. Strain the contents of the shaker out into a cocktail glass filled with ice. Garnish with a cherry.

Ball-dancing with Champagne

Dances with special invites there are aplenty and these can only be duly fulfilled with a glass of bubbly or a few. An annual season of nightly events and parties translated into many episodes of high society gatherings, replete with trays roaming the grand rooms,  flutes of champagne being the choice of drink.

If you would rather go overboard with the bubbly à la Violet Bridgerton and you have to mend your hangover with Daphne’s cure of raw eggs and garlic then the only one worth it is the Champagne Delamotte Brut Blanc de Blancs, a 90 point gold winner at the Sommelier Choice Awards.

So raise a toast to the final happy ending of Season 1 or get fancier with these Bridgerton inspired champagne cocktails that Lady Daphne would give a nod to.

A glass of red

Whether it was Daphne and Simon sharing their first meal together as a married couple, or Lady Featherington having dinner with the Bridgertons, reds accompanied every meal.

A full-bodied red like a Shiraz would be preferred by the royals, pairing perfectly well with every six-course affair. Try the Kirrihill 2018 E.B's The Squire Clare Shiraz, a double gold winner at the Sommeliers Choice Awards.

The wine also won the titles of ‘Wine of the Year by Country [Australia]’ and ‘Wine of the Year by Varietal [Shiraz]’. Lush black fruits with secondary notes of smoked meat and black pepper, this wine is a great example of some incredibly well-made wine that will transport you back to the 1800s with every sip.

Bridgerton-inspired cocktails

Not all our livers are strong enough to handle 60ml of straight Bourbon. So for those of you whose choice of tipple isn’t bourbon or red wine, we’ve scoured the Ton for some Bridgerton-inspired cocktails.

Forbidden Love

This seems to be the common thread for romances throughout this show, with Penelope Featherington pining for Colin, Anthony’s definitely forbidden love for opera singer Siena and many more.
